Larger batteries for SUVs and 4x4s, and EFB or AGM batteries for start-stop and premium cars, cost more because they hold more capacity and use more expensive construction. Why car battery prices differ
Two quotes for the same car can differ because they are for different batteries. These are the factors that move the price.
- Size and capacity: a Land Cruiser battery holds far more charge than a Yaris battery.
- Technology: AGM costs more than EFB, and EFB more than a standard battery. Start-stop cars need EFB or AGM.
- Brand: premium brands such as Varta, Bosch and Optima cost more than value brands such as Solite, Rocket or Kays.
- Warranty: longer warranties usually come with higher-priced batteries.
- Vehicle setup: some European cars need the new battery registered with the car after fitting.
